Stay In Your Lane: by Gracia Mukiibi

Have you ever been on a freeway and realised you’re in the wrong lane, seemingly going too slow? You decide to switch lanes and, to your amazement, the lane you came from speeds up.

Life is like this journey. It’s incredibly complex, with traffic lights, stop signs, give-ways, highways and low-ways, valleys and hills. No one’s journey is smooth and easy.
I’ve learned that no matter how complex life is, no two journeys are the same. Comparing yourself to anyone undermines your uniqueness.
Social media offers a colourful lens and creative filters, amplifying what’s artificial. No one posts terrible photos of themselves, and AI can present any version of you you choose.
If reality isn’t always so real, what’s the fuss about someone else’s seemingly glamorous projection? We need to remember that not everything that glitters is diamond.
If we focus on our own journey and enjoy it, we’ll realise it’s an opportunity gifted to us by God that we shouldn’t take for granted. The more we focus intentionally who we were created to be, the less we’re concerned about and distracted by what everyone else is doing.
I’m reminded that no one has ever reached their destination by keeping their eyes fixed in their rearview mirror while driving; after all, everyone has their own destination!
